4 WIND SPEED & TAPERS 2 OUR HISTORY In 1897, the Lingo family business was started by John E. Lingo. The founder was a tugboat captain on the Delaware River and started the business becoming one of 27 spar yards located along the river. He began making ship masts and spars for damaged sailing ships that came up the river looking for repair. Along with masts and spars, he began making wooden flagpoles as well. John passed away in 1921 at the age of 67. His son Archibald took over the business at that time and started producing steel flagpoles shortly thereafter. The business quickly became one of the largest manufacturers of steel flagpoles in the country. In 1930, Lingo produced and distributed the first-ever flagpole only catalog. Titled “Architects’ Guide and General Catalogue of Flagpoles”, the publication contained standard flagpole sizing, design details, and detailed descriptions of all flagpole parts. The catalog became the most widely used flagpole reference by architects and designers. Archibald died in 1941 at the age of 58 and was replaced by his son John E. Lingo. John continued to produce steel flagpoles throughout the ’40s, but in 1950 he produced the first-ever tapered aluminum flagpole. Unlike steel, aluminum does not rust and does not have to be painted. Aluminum quickly became the material of choice for flagpoles and is the most popular flagpole produced today. Acme/Lingo had several other “firsts” along the way. The first tapered stainless steel flagpole, the first tapered steel flagpole made from pipe and the first bronze flagpole made from heavy wall tubing were all pioneered and developed by Acme/Lingo. John E. Lingo passed in 1970 at the age of 64 at which time the 4th generation, John E. Lingo, Jr. (Jack) took over the business. In the early ’80s, Jack was highly involved in the development of what was to become the ANSI/NAAMM Guide Specification for the Design of Metal Flagpoles. This standard was the first-ever, industry agreed upon, guide for designing metal flagpoles. The business continued to produce metal flagpoles for many prominent installations worldwide under his watch. Jack’s son, Jeff, began working in the business in 1982 and is the 5th generation Lingo in the flagpole business. In 2004, John Jr. retired and the Camden location was sold. Jeff opened a new location in Southampton, NJ and continues to offer aluminum flagpoles up to 80’ tall, steel flagpoles 90’ and above, and a new “Automatic” flagpole that raises and lowers the flagpole automatically at sunrise and sunset. Through five generations, Acme/Lingo continues to lead the way in design and innovation. Our quality flagpoles are hoisting flags in every US state, all US territories and in over 60 foreign countries. Acme/Lingo’s commitment to proper design, quality materials, precise manufacturing and superior service will assure that you are getting the best flagpole the industry has to offer.

Acme/Lingo External Halyard Aluminum flagpoles have a rope halyard on the outside of the flagpole that ties off to a cleat mounted 4’-6” up from grade. This type of halyard system is the “standard” system that has been used for over 100 years and works well in areas were vandalism and flag theft are not a concern. Acme/Lingo External Halyard flagpoles are equipped standard with the following components: • (1) Gold anodized or Satin finished aluminum ball • (1) Double sheave revolving truck • (1) Braided polyester halyard • (2) Brass swivel snaps or (2) Quiet Halyard flag clasps • (1) 9” Cast aluminum cleat with (2) stainless steel mounting screws • (1) Spun aluminum flash collar • (1) Corrugated metal foundation sleeve ** OPTIONS: • Cast aluminum locking cleat cover (prevents unwanted untying of halyard) • 5’ Aluminum halyard protector (must be used with cleat cover to protect the lower 5’ of rope from being cut by vandals) • Wire center halyard (prevents cutting halyard with a knife) ** 3” and 4” diameter flagpoles use a PVC foundation sleeve, stationary cap truck and nylon flag snaps 4 GROUND SET FLAGPOLES - EXTERNAL HALYARD PRO TIP: If flying two flags on the same flagpole, you simply need two additional flag snaps to the same halyard. The use of two halyards on the same flagpole is not recommended, as it leads to tangling of flags and limits the rotation of the truck assembly.

Acme/Lingo Winch Internal Halyard Aluminum flagpoles use a stainless steel cable halyard and winch on the inside of the flagpole. The flagpole is operated by inserting a winch handle through an access hole in the side of the pole, and simply cranking the handle up or down. When the handle is removed the winch is locked in place allowing for full and half staff display of the flag. Acme/Lingo Winch Internal Halyard Flagpoles are equipped standard with the following components: • (1) Gold anodized aluminum ball • (1) Revolving cable truck assembly • (1) 1/8” 7x19 Stainless steel cable halyard • (1) Stainless steel swivel • (2) 5/16” Stainless steel flag snaps • (1) Flag arrangement safety cable • (1) Vinyl coated counter weight • (1) Beaded nylon retainer ring with 1” nylon balls • (1) Stainless steel internally mounted winch with removable handle • (1) Teardrop winch handle hole cover • (1) Spun aluminum flash collar • (1) Corrugated metal foundation sleeve Why Acme/Lingo Winch Internal Halyard? Acme/Lingo Rope Internal Halyard Aluminum flagpoles use a rope halyard on the inside of the flagpole. The flagpole is operated by removing a locked door and releasing the rope from a jamb cleat mounted inside the pole. Acme/ Lingo Rope Internal flagpoles provide security and clean appearance without the added expense of the cable and winch system. Acme/Lingo Rope Internal Halyard Flagpoles are equipped standard with the following components: • (1) Gold anodized aluminum ball • (1) Revolving rope truck assembly • (1) Braided polyester halyard • (2) Brass swivel snaps with neoprene covers • (1) Internally mounted jamb cleat assembly ** • (1) Flush locking access door with cylinder lock • (1) Spun aluminum flash collar • (1) Corrugated metal foundation sleeve 8 GROUND SET FLAGPOLES - ROPE INTERNAL HALYARD ** Acme/Lingo’s jamb cleat assembly allows users to release and lock the halyard in place with one hand, unlike the industry standard cam cleat. As an added safety measure, if the operator was to release the halyard by accident, the halyard would catch itself in the jamb cleat helping avoid damage from the counterweight falling to the ground. Revolving Truck is Standard! Acme/Lingo provides a revolving truck assembly as a standard feature. Revolving trucks help the flag to not wrap around the flagpole and improve the life of the halyard since the rope is not pulled across the truck sheave as it is with a stationary cap style internal truck.

10 “BIG JOHN” CONE TAPERED LARGE STEEL FLAGPOLES Acme/Lingo “Big John” large steel flagpoles are true CONE TAPERED flagpoles. Unlike other large steel flagpoles that use reducing pipe sections with offset joints to create the taper, Acme/Lingo “Big John” flagpoles offer a smooth, uniform cone tapered design. This creates an elegant and graceful appearance that is unmatched. “Big John” flagpoles use a unique field joint design that eliminates the time consuming alignment of field joints during installation. In addition, there is NO WELDING required in the field. This allows “Big John” flagpoles to be assembled and erected in one day therefore minimizing costly labor and crane costs. “Big John” Cone Tapered Steel Flagpole heights range from 90’ to 150’ offering a visually powerful display. Designs of both a 100 MPH and 130 MPH with a 30’x60’ flag make them adequate for most all project locations. “Big John” flagpoles are equipped with a heavy-duty internal halyard system for security and ease of flag raising and lowering. The standard finish provided for the “Big John” flagpoles is a powder coat painted finish and for added protection, a hot dip galvanized finish, under the powder coat is also available. If you are looking for a large flagpole and want to make a big statement, “Big John” Cone Tapered Steel Flagpoles are your answer!
